Dubai-based AerOceaNetwork member, Haktrans Global Logistics LLC, was recently consigned a very special temporary import air shipment which consisted of a fixed-wing light aircraft imported from Seattle, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The cargo was imported for a breathtaking mission – to land and take off on the world’s tiniest runway on the helipad of the world-renowned Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.

As this was a temporary import, Haktrans completed the customs clearance using an ATA Carnet provided by the shipper. The aircraft shipment was then delivered on an air suspension truck to the UAE consignee, Skydive Dubai.

Łukasz Czepiela, Poland’s first Red Bull Air Race pilot, made aviation history by becoming the first person to land a plane on the helipad of the iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai. With the specially adapted light aircraft, Czepiela was able to bring it to a stop in just 21 meters, landing on a platform that was only 27 meters wide and 212 meters above the ground on top of the 56-story building.

The Red Bull plane used in this stunt was specially modified with 13 custom adjustments to ensure that it was as lightweight as possible and could land on the helipad without the need for a long runway.
