Export figures welcomed by shipping expert
A shipping company has welcomed figures that reveal a record high in the export of art from the UK last year as an indicator of international faith in the UK market.
The study, by Thomson Reuters legal business, said there was 7.6 per cent increase in UK arts exports last year, reaching £11.3 billion.
Nicole Howarth, managing director of award winning Telford firm Global Freight, said the report backed the company’s own experience during the last 12 to 18 months.
Global Freight is renowned for its skill in transporting fragile goods and works of art, with few companies in the sector offering a specialised service for the sector.
It has carved out a niche in shipping oversize artwork and bronzes, earning a reputation among art dealers and collectors, for its professionalism and reliability. Previous exports have included transporting a life-size horse and base to Vittoria Racing Club, in Melbourne, Australia, and a sculpture from Oswestry to the door of a private collector in Texas, USA.
Nicole said: “The new figures are good news all round for artists, dealers and exporters like us. The market in art export has been very buoyant over the past few years, and London in particular remains a key market with buyers from overseas.
